The lineworkers' rodeo began at Santee Cooper in 1998. The rodeo was initially developed to determine which lineworkers' would represent Santee Cooper at the International Lineworkers' rodeo in Kansas City , MI. In 2002 the cooperatives of SC were invited to join Santee Cooper in the competition. The rodeo has turned into an event that attracts lineworkers, families, and friends from all over the state.

The rodeo is intended to showcase the skills and knowledge of Lineworkers' in a fun and safe environment. The rodeo is a one day competition/fellowship that is also intended to strengthen the lineworker's knowledge and improve them in the areas of safety, team work, and productivity.
The rodeo competition is open to anyone who is or was a qualified practicing lineworker employed by Santee Cooper or a Cooperative of SC.
There are two levels of competition within the rodeo - journeyman and apprentice. The journeyman teams consist of three members - two climbers and one ground person.
Vendors from all over the United States have played a major role in the success of this rodeo. Vendors sponsor the individual events providing materials and awards for their events. The vendors really make the awards ceremony exciting.
Family activities make the rodeo fun and exciting for all ages. Berkeley Electric Cooperative and Santee Cooper Relay For Life Teams will be selling food at the rodeo. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
